SEMA: Scion Builds An FR-S Everyone Wants

How shall I describe a dream car?  We can keep it simple.  Six-speed manual.  Rear wheel drive.  2+2 seating.  Stylish without being exotic.  Removable roof top.  Rear louvres for the retro 1980’s look.

Scion built it.

The FR-S has been a great entry for the Scion line up.  It gave enthusiast drivers an affordable, enthusiast car.  Scion took it to the next level with a modified FR-S, one that looks easy for production, but won’t likely be made.

The vehicle has been lowered and sits on custom 19-inch forged wheels. Other vehicle highlights include:

  • High-mounted custom center exhaust
  • GReddy street turbo kit
  • KW coil-over suspension
  • Wilwood Big Brake Kit with custom nickel-plated finish
  • OEM Audio+ System 400 complemented by a Pioneer AVIC-8000NEX head unit
“It’s an honor being involved with Scion for the seventh consecutive year bringing design concepts to reality and setting the bar for the SEMA Show,” Lookofsky said. “We have won two Mothers® design awards and SEMA fan favorite awards throughout the years, and I’m pretty confident our FR-S will come home on a positive note as well.”

Having been part of the Heya Project, the FR-S is a dream come true.  It brings accessible performance at an attainable price.

Current FR-S owners could actually build this car.  Sure, it would take some bold craftsmanship, but it is possible.  There are aftermarket turbo and supercharger kits available in the market.  A person with more skill could could make a removable top.  Sure, additional bracing may be necessary, be easily doable.

Even the rear-center mounted exhaust is possible.

While it’s not the most exotic car, it sticks to the original idea of bringing fun and excitement to the driving experience.  Imagine driving your favorite road, feeling the lateral acceleration at every corner.  Now, imagine that experience exposed to the elements.

It’s not a Mazda MX-5 Club Edition, but something should be said about a car that takes on a slightly more serious demeanor.

It’s also easy to make this dream come true.
