Ferrari: Two F1 Drivers take on the Fastest Roller Coaster, the Formula Rossa!
By Mike Garcia
It’s the weekend, and what better way to spend it than at a theme park. As a California resident, I have been spoiled by Disneyland, Magic Mountain, and Knott’s Berry Farm nearby. Each of them have their own set of rides, but for me, Magic Mountain has the rides that are the fastest and most thrilling.
Sure, there are better roller coasters at Cedar Point and throughout the world, but are they as fast as this?
Now, the average roller coaster goes around 50 miles per hour at best. Sometimes, the drops are only a few floors. California Screamin at California Adventure Park at Disneyland starts off with a 0-55 mile per hour shot in less than five seconds. Really, it feels like electric launch control.
Well, Ferrariworld in Abu Dhabi takes it up several notches with the Formula Rossa roller coaster ride.
How about reaching top speeds of 149 miles per hour? Is that fast enough?
Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso are both World Champion F1 Drivers. Kimi has won with the Ferrari team back in 2007. Fernando Alonso won two championships with the Renault team, back in 2005 and 2006. While Ferrari has struggled this season, it’s clear that 149 mile per hour speeds on a roller coaster, simply don’t phase F1 drivers, especially the Iceman, Kimi Raikkonen.
Fernando Alonso seems to enjoy the ride. He actually smiles, gets his hands up in the air, and has the occasional, “Whooo!” Kimi Raikkonen, on the other hand, looks like he’s staring at the track ahead. It’s hard to tell if he’s enjoying the ride or not. Instead, he looks like he’s concentrating, or rather, breaking down the feel of the ride.
Formula One drivers are accustomed to such speeds. No wonder why Kimi Raikkonen is completely expressionless.
But the Formula Rossa still makes a hell of a thrill ride.
