Fiat 500 Cabrio “1957 Edition” Is Retro Styling Done Right

Fiat announced earlier today that they’re applying its infamous Cabrio treatment to its 2015 Fiat 500 “1957 Edition.” Priced at $4200 more than its fixed-roof brother at $24,700, the 2015 Fiat 500 Cabrio “1957 edition” applies all the same styling and performance enhancements that Fiat applied last year and carries it over to this new model.

With Spring in full effect and summer just around the corner, this 2015 Fiat 500 Cabrio “1957 Edition” is just what fans of the small Italian car company are looking for.

Outside, you get all the retro design touches that harken back to its 1957 year origin. That includes steel wheel lookalikes that are actually forged aluminium pieces, old-school Fiat 500 badging all around and inside there’s a special retro brown leather interior. Only three exterior colors are available; white, light green, and blue.

Powering the 2015 Fiat 500 Cabrio “1957 edition” is just one engine choice, Fiat’s 1.4 Liter 101 HP four-cylinder which can be paired to a standard five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic.

The real party trick though is Fiat’s folding roof. At speeds up to 60 MPH, the first touch of the roof button brings the cloth roof halfway open. Another press of the roof button brings the soft top all the way over the rear head restraints. You can fully open the roof at speeds up to 50 mph.

Fiat is one of the few car manufacturers that have successfully made a car that not only appeals to hard-core driving enthusiasts but the often untouched female demographic as well. With the Fiat 500 Abarth edition, you get all the sights and sounds of a true Italian sports car at the fraction of the price. And with this 1957 edition of its popular Fiat 500, the ladies will appreciate the retro styling cues and convertible functions that will have teenage daughters pestering their Dad’s with promises of good grades and a summer job to get the keys to one of these convertibles in their hands.

Here’s a walkaround of its fixed roof brother at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show earlier this year.
