Any 90’s kid or millennial for that matter will know what Initial D is. It was one of the first and only Japanese animes that popularized the AE86 Trueno and got millions of US kids excited about the sport of drifting. Someone brilliantly mashed up a segment of Initial D with footage from “Rescue 911” featuring school buses. The mashup is so well done, it’s a must-see if you haven’t already.

A popular CBS TV show called “Rescue 911” that started in 1989 and hosted by William Shatner was a reality-based television show featuring real life situations that were then acted by professional reenactors. Every time, the situation called for a phone call to emergency services (thus the name of the show.) One segment that aired in 1992 was called “Brakeless Bus” It featured a group of Montana Indian Fire Fighters on the way back from a job. There were two buses transporting people that day and it started like any normal drive back to HQ. One bus on the way down from their job lost its air brakes and careened out of control. Thanks to the quick thinking of the other bus and its driver, he quickly stuffed his bus next to the “Brakeless bus” and shoved it off the road away from the cliffs edge. Thankfully everyone survived and there were no injuries. Thanks to the efforts of both drivers, 42 lives where saved that day.

As with all footage on the internet, that segment lived on until 2012 when someone decided to replace the original audio track with Initial D music. What results is pure comedic genius. And here’s the original segment footage if you want to wax nostalgic.
