330 HP all to the front wheels? This is madness…THIS.IS.VW!

The Touring Car Racing International Series. A race series dominated by Audis, Opels, Seats and Hondas. Now private race teams have a new manufacturer to consider as VW unveiled its VW Golf Racecar concept complete with full racing cage, aero and engine good for 330 HP all within the regulations of TCR specs. One look at this concept race car you’ll be drooling out the side of your mouth as VW insists that this is just a regular VW Golf that’s been thorughly stripped and beefed up for racing. VW is wasting no time to get these cars up to racing spec condition as Liqui Moly Team Englster have agreed to run the car under race conditions during Round 8 of the TCR series which happens to be this weekend!

Mounted on this racecar are special 18-inch racing wheels. The entire chassis as been widened by 40 cm for that all important racecar stability. Dominating the front is an aerodynamic fascia focused on channeling air into a giant front mount intercooler as well as pushing air underneath the car. The front hood has a large functional scoop to shovel hot air out of the engine bay, important for any race car in race conditions. Inside, it’s a jungle gym of bars and chassis strengthing cages. This car is stiff. Outback, it’s business still. The large spoiler channels air to force the rear wheels from lifting. A three channel rear diffusers directs air from underneath as well.

Look to the stock Golf R for power plant inspiration as VW takes the 292 HP and 280 lbs-ft turbo 2.0 and adds 38 HP and 22 lbs-ft of torque bringing final power numbers to 330 HP and 302 lbs-ft of torque. Suffice to say, this isn’t your Mom’s Golf.
