Are you telling me the same stuff they sell at Walmart is good enough for my Koenigsegg? Yes!

According to a press release Koenigsegg themselves dropped yesterday, (July 15, 2015), Koenigsegg has entered into an exclusive partnership with Castrol (specifically their Castrol Edge products) for an undisclosed period of time. We’re not sure how these partnerships work out, but probably for a lump sum of cash and sponsorship rights, Koenigsegg has to exclusively only use Castrol lubricants and in return Castrol gets some advertising for their products on arguably one of the best supercar manufacturers in the world. Can you believe that the same stuff they sell at Wal Mart is the exact same oil they put in the Koenigsegg One:1? Crazy right?

"Under this partnership, Castrol EDGE will be the exclusive provider of performance lubricants for the Koenigsegg One:1 Megacar. We at Koenigsegg are driven by the relentless pursuit of a single goal – to design and build the world’s greatest performance cars. We leave no stone unturned and accept no compromises when it comes to delivering on that promise."

If you take a look around, you see these partnerships all the time. Hennessey and Dodge (specifically there Hellcat lineup) both have special sponsorships with Pennzoil. And Mobil 1 only oil caps can be found inside the engine bays of Mitsubishi Lancer Evolutions, Porsches and Chevrolet Corvettes.  If a car manufacturer recommends a specific oil, it’s best to stick with their recommendation. Afterall, they’re the ones with the mechanical engineering degrees and probably know what’s best.

But at the end of the day, it’s more a case of we’ll scratch your back if you scratch ours. Oil can get expensive and having a proper lubricant supply can mean the difference of getting your test vehicles on the road today or the next week. In addition, Castrol probably has special oil labs that Koenigsegg can’t economically justify having their own facilities. Hats off to whomever closed that deal in Castrol. Smart move.
