But why not the Merc’ Clarkson?
Next: Jeremy Clarkson's Last Lap Around The Top Gear Test Track
Earlier this week, Jeremy Clarkson tweeted that he and Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason and racing driver Marino Franchitti were going to take a final set of laps around Dunsfold Aerodrome also known as the Top Gear Test Track. Earlier in the day, Clarkson tweeted a picture of these three supercars ( a Ferrari 488 GTB, a LaFerrari, and a Mercedes-AMG GT S) and asked fans which car he would take his own personal final lap in. According to our good friends over at AutoEvolution (July 17,2015) it looks like Jeremy took the (drum roll please)…Ferrari 488 GTB out for one final romp.

Most of his fans, including us at Art of Gears thought that surely Clarkson would’ve chosen the Merc’. In his lifetime Clarkson has owned a CLK63 AMG Black series, 2002 Mercedes SL 55 AMG, 2005 Mercedes SLK 55 AMG and a 2007 Mercedes 600 Grosser. That’s as far as we know. So logically we would’ve assumed he would go for the Mercedes-AMG GT S. But alas, Clarkson went for the Ferrari 488 GTB. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
We think that Clarkson probably has had his fair share of AMG’s round this old test track and wanted to go for something a bit different for his final lap. The LaFerrari, while a tour-de-force as a supercar, is probably a little to much for the small 1.75 mile 12 lap course. With it’s 3.9 Liter twin-turbocharged V8 making 661 HP and 561 lbs-ft of torque, there was more than enough power for Clarkson to pull off , “the motherf***er of all tails slides through Chicago.” Not our words, but Jezza’s.
