Is A Debt-Free Spyker Ready To Take On Tesla Motors?
By Paulo Acoba
Now clear of all debt’s, Dutch automaker Spyker is ready to take on all electric car competitors.
Remember the gorgeous and detailed Spyker C8 Aileron? That same company that went bankrupt earlier last year and entered into a period of company restructuring and refinancing, according to our motoring friends over at Paul Tan on their piece earlier today (Aug. 8, 2015), is partnering with US-based electric plane manufacturer Volta Volare in a bid to produce an electric car lineup to rival the world’s best. In other words, they’ve got their crosshairs aimed directly at Elon Musk.
Spyker was most known for it’s C8 Spyder with it’s Audi derived 4.2-liter V8 engine. Although there were more powerful cars on the road that could easily have a field day with Spyker’s 400 HP powerplant, none could argue that they could catch the attention of passerby’s quite like the C8. Car and Driver called the C8, “more than a sports car; it’s a work of art.”
In addition, this was the same car company that bought that ailing Midland F1 team back in 2006 and ran three races in that season as Spyker MF1 and then again in 2007 despite suffering multiple setbacks ultimatly scoring one point in Japan. That team we know today as the reborn Force India team. Spyker is also known for a brief time to own SAAB Automobile of which we can thank for the release of the second generation Saab 9-5, although the car was developed entirely under GM’s ownership.
Spyker is known for taking risks despite the odds and producing some of the most beautiful automobiles that the world has ever seen. If there’s one way to get more people into electric cars, it’s to make them look good and Spyker has the chops to do just that. We look forward to what Spyker has to offer very soon.
"Spyker is back with a vengeance and we look forward to a bright future for the company I founded 15 years ago and which is now set to build sensationally elegant and classy (electric) motorcars and electric planes for decades to come.”"
