Ford Shelby GT350 And GT350R Configurator Is Now Live
By Paulo Acoba
A Shelby GT350 in Race Red with a blue racing stripe? Yah, that’s possible according to Ford’s official configurator.
If you’ve been on the fence whether you want to drop close to $50,000 ($48,695 to be exact) on a 2016 Ford Shelby GT350 or GT350R, Ford’s newly launched configurator should be able to make that decision a little bit easier. Ford just launched its configurator earlier yesterday ( Aug. 11, 2015) and on first run-through, the whole process is pretty intuitive and fun for us window shoppers who’ll never actually buy one of these track cars for the streets. As previously mentioned, the Shelby GT350 has a starting MSRP of $48, 695 while the GT350R adds another $13,550 to that. Priced about $10,000 less than the current Z/28 Camaro, whatever Chevrolet has up its sleeve for the 2016 Camaro, it’d better be as good if not better than the Shelby GT350R.
The configurator allows you to choose from all sorts of exterior colors, stripe options and a limited selection of optional packages. Most enthusiasts will hover their mouses over the $6,500 track package which adds Magneride adaptive dampers, a decklid spoiler, an under-hood aluminum brace, oil and transmission coolers, a differential and beefier front springs. Most notably an exterior option on the GT350R is Ford’s exclusive offering of a set of carbon fiber wheels in 19×11 and 19×11.5 sizes, the first set of available carbon fiber wheels on a mass produced vehicles.
But the real star of the show which is standard on both vehicles is that 5.2 liter DOHC V8 engine that packs a whopping 500 HP and 400 lb-ft of torque. Keep in mind for $3,000 less than a stock BMW M4 with just 425 HP and 406 lb-ft of torque, you can have the GT350R. We’ll take the Shelby thank you very much!
