It’s been hyped for close to a couple of months now but when it came time to put the pedal to the metal, Gas Monkey Garage came out with the win.

There were dozens of runs down the 1/8th-mile drag strip at the Pontiac Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan earlier tonight but really only one drag race mattered to the larger automtive community. According to Roadkill on their facebook update a couple of hours ago (Aug. 12, 2015) it looks like they lost out to the boys at Gas Monkey Garage by 6/10’s (which we assume means 6/10’s of a second.) When it comes to 1/8th-mile drag races, 6/10’s of a second is almost an eternity.

"Well, we got spanked real bad by Gas Monkey Garage. Tree’d Aaron solidly, but they had a plain faster car. Nice work on their part. Glad that’s over. So now we return to our normal programming."

It’s no mystery that the staff at Art of Gears was rooting for the underdogs of this race which were David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan but according to Roadkill, it looks like Gas Monkey Garage had the faster car. Due to the fact that both shows probably want to do a little editing on their footage before any official videos hit the web, we probably won’t see a polished look at the entire race. But that doesn’t mean fans didn’t whip out their phones and upload the race onto youtube! Here’s the race from one fans point of view below! Also, check out the highlight reel that Fiat Chrysler put out shortly after.

Right off the line it looks like Gas Monkey Garage launched their ’68 Dodge Dart to a commanding lead and pretty much held it throughout the entire run. That doesn’t mean the General Mayhem didn’t give a proper fight as they held their own against Aaron Kaufman’s creation the entire run down the track.

Cheesy as it may sound, we have to give a major props to the guys at Dodge and Roadkill. Not only did people from the surrounding Michigan area get the chance to drag race some of their own cars for free, those who were lucky enough to get down there on a Wednesday night where treated to some good old-fashioned family fun with a classic car show, live music, some ridealongs with professional drivers in a couple of Dodge Charger and Challenger Hellcats as well as a bit of drifting. This event is part of a series of events by Dodge to kick off the annual Woodward Dream Cruise.
