For $1,900 Ford Performance is offering a factory upgrade package that adds 23 HP with a factory backed warranty.

The Ford Focus ST is already one of the hottest hot hatches available in North America. But according to a press release that Ford Performance dropped earlier yesterday (Aug. 17, 2015) owners can go ahead and check an option box after purchasing the Focus ST that adds 23 HP and 26 lb-ft of torque all backed by a three year/36,000 mile factory warranty if installation is carried out by an authorized installer. Ford has worked with Mountune performance, a UK based tuner that’s been in the business of tuning Ford’s since 1980 to bring this kit to American Focus ST owners attention.

The upgraded parts are relatively simple. Included in the upgrade kit is Mountune’s induction kit, a high flow intercooler, an mTune handset, installation hardware and a performance badge. After the technician adds all the go-fast bits, we imagine a simple flash tune is all it takes to bring power numbers to that 275 HP and 296 lb-ft number. Included in that reflash is a quicker throttle response that doesn’t compromise durability. Probably the best part is, is that it’s street legal in all 50 states despite what it says on the Mountune website.

"“The 2015 Focus ST MP275 upgrade is the latest addition to Ford Performance’s vast Focus and Fiesta performance catalog that gives enthusiasts the components they need to take their car to the next level,” said Adam Gair, product manager, Ford Performance."

Adding that much power to a four-cylinder engine shouldn’t be a problem for most people who are pretty handy with a spanner and a set of performance parts. It’s the peace of mind that comes with in-house tests for performance and durability that Ford is willing to put their name on that the $1,900 brings.

"Backing up the Mountune components is our world class, performance ECU calibration engineered to add maximum reliable performance. Developed in-house by our team of experienced engineers, the MP275 ECU calibration has been validated through a wide range of performance tests and durability cycles resulting in a complete performance upgrade system that is legal for street use in the United States."
