The Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo Is A Veyron Turned Race Car
By Paulo Acoba
Originally designed and crafted for Polyphony’s Gran Turismo, the concept makes its way into real life.
What if you combine the overall shape of the Bugatti Veyron with inspiration from a 1930’s era Bugatti racecar and bring that epic mashup into the twenty-first century? According to a Bugatti on their official press release that hit the web earlier today ( Sept. 2, 2015) they’re bringing such a car dubbed the “Vision Gran Turismo” from the video game world into real life and will be debuting that car at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show later this week. During Monterey Car Week, Bugatti’s CEO Wolfgang Durheimer did mention that there was one more surprise in store for 2015 that would not be the Chiron, and by the looks of things, this is it. Check out all the exclusive photos that Bugatti dropped below. It’s quite an eyeful to say the least.
"The designers drew their inspiration from the brand’s successful racing tradition. Bugatti enjoyed great success in racing in the 1920s and 1930s. The historical theme for the design of the Vision Gran Turismo virtual modern race car was, in particular, the Bugatti Type 57 Tank and its victories in the 24-hour Le Mans race in 1937 and 1939. Consequently, the Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo makes its appearance in the classic blue two-tone finish of the Type 57 G Tank, the winning car in 1937, simultaneously evoking the colours of the historical French race cars of that period. Since then, blue has also been Bugatti’s brand colour."
There’s quite a bit of design going on once you delve into it. Right off the bat, Bugatti’s quintessential horseshoe grill serves as an anchoring design element that connects pretty much all cars across their entire lineup. Outback, there’s a center fin that connects the roof of the Vision Gran Turismo with the rear spoiler, another design element from older Bugatti’s ( Type 57 Atlantic circa 1936.) A glance at the side profile reveals a very long trailing edge, a design feature that not only helps the Vision Gran Turismo’s stability, but adds to the elegance of the entire vehicle.
We’re glad that Bugatti has dropped some official renderings for us to enjoy and would love to see this car making its way onto our video game screens. But to see an actual real-life model of such a concept vehicle would be quite something. Suffice to say, the Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo will be the absolute star of the Frankfurt Motor Show.
