Back To The Future Trilogy: Top 30 Vehicles
By Paulo Acoba
#22- Hill Valley Transport Super Van
Appeared in: Back to the Future II
We only catch a glimpse of this futuristic van rolling around in BTTF II but it’s enough for us to stop for a second and wonder what the heck just rolled by. Although the vehicle itself never actually played a pivotal role in the movie, its history was unique enough for us not to include it in this list.
It was originally called The Love Machine and featured orange shag carpet and a rotating bed. The Love Machine was built by the world famous car designer of the 60’s, 70’s and early 80’s George Barris (the man responsible for the original bat mobile amongst other vehicles.)After its foreay as The Love Machine, it became the Super Van, which was solar powered and its main mission was to fight crime.
Underpinning the chassis of this van was a 1966 Dodge Tradesman and all that really remains from that Dodge is a 318 cubic inch engine and automatic transmission (so it wasn’t really solar-powered after all.) You’ll be glad to know what although it was repainted green in BTTF II, it was restored to its former glory. Check out this exclusive interview with George Harris and his Super Van from 2009 below.
