#15- 1972 Citreon D’Special Futuristic Taxi

Appeared in: Back to the Future II

After Jennifer is taken back to her future home in 2015, Marty and Doc go back to Hilldale to find her and bring her back to the past. Unfortunately Biff Tannen recognizes the duo in the future and gives chase in a futuristic Taxi from the Luxor Cab Company that, like all cars in this time period, also happens to fly. In typical taxicab livery with antennas every which way, this futuristic taxi symbolically carries on where the New York Checker Cabs and Crown Vics left off.

The real car underneath is a French made 1972 Citreon DS (D’Special.) Sold in the United States from 1956-1972 all in all there were about 38,000 units sold. When the DS first came out in 1955 it featured a revolutionary new hydraulic suspension that replaced the standard spring and damper. This bold new suspension design allowed the DS to be driven on poor quality road surfaces while still maintaining a comfortable ride inside.

The original movie prop car, as of 2010, has been restored to its original glory and resides somewhere in the Netherlands at a local car dealership. As far as we can see, it’s been expertly restored and cared for by dedicated fans of the film.
