#11-1951 Chevrolet Advanced Design (a.k.a. the manure truck)

Appeared in: Back to the Future I and II

The 1951 Chevrolet Advanced Design heavy duty hauler was better known as the manure truck in Back to the Future I and II. You could say that the 1946 Ford Super Deluxe and this truck had a special relationship throughout the film with the contents being hauled out back always happening to find a way into Biff’s interior. D. Jones was known as a manure hauler back in 1955 and if you fast forward (err go back) to BTTF III when Marty McFly and Buford Tannen get into a fist fight, it’s clearly seen that Tannen falls into the back of a wheelbarrow of manure owned by one A.Jones (a descendent of D. Jones.)

The Chevrolet Advanced design truck held the distinction for being the first major redesign project Chevrolet undertook after the completion of WWII. Compared to the truck it replaced, it was advertised as bigger, stronger, and sleeker in comparison. The 1951 Chevrolet Advanced design truck was most likely powered by a 235 cubic inch inline six with similar power specs to the Chevrolet Bel Air. The Chevrolet Advanced design wasn’t just for work. The Chevrolet Suburban was based on the same chassis as well as the Chevrolet Pickup and School busses capable of hauling up to 54 kids.
