Appeared in: Back to the Future I and III

Originally owned by Doc Brown, he lent this dreamboat of a car to Marty McFly to accompany Lorraine Barnes ( his mother) to the infamous “Enchantment Under The Sea” dance. The car played a pivotal role as the scene of the infamous fight between Biff Tannen and George McFly that would eventually see the once infatuated Lorraine Barnes choose George McFly over Marty. We again run into the 1948 Packard Custom Eight Victoria just as Doc Brown and Marty McFly are preparing to head into 1885 in BTTF III.

The Packard Custom Eight Victoria was part of the luxury lineup for the Packard Motor Company. Founded in 1899, the Packard Motor Company was known for its luxury and oftentimes handmade vehicles. Ultimately, when demand for luxury vehicles waned just around the time that this Packard Custom Eight Victoria was being made and cheaper marquees and vehicle lineups were sought after by consumers, many of Packard cars went to the wayside and financial troubles for the company were afoot. After a somewhat unsuccessful merger with Studebaker and several tries to revive a once loved car name, consumers demand for smaller cars spelled the extinction for Packard.

This particular 1948 Packard Custom Eight Victoria convertible was one of 1,103 in existence. According to American Dream Cars, there are only about 30-50 of these convertibles remaining and while the whereabouts of this original movie prop are unknown, a few people who own ’48 Packard Custom Eight Victorias seem to believe they own the one from BTTF.
