Appeared in: Back to the Future III

Doc Brown, being the ingenious scientist that he is, couldn’t just stay in the 19th century without giving his good friend Marty McFly a visit. Right when Marty and Jennifer return to the scene of the crash of the DeLorean, we finally see just how Doc Brown returned to 1985. Marty and Jennifer are walking amongst the destroyed remains of teh DeLorean when the train safety barriers start to fall with no train coming in the distance.  Then *bang* Doc Brown appears out of thin air in his Locomotive 131 inspired time travel train that he’s aptly called the Jules Verne Train. On the side are Docs initials ELB and he’s brought his wife and kids in tow.

When Marty asks if he’s going back to the future, Doc replies that he’s already been there at which point we see what he means when the train lifts off the ground and hovers away. We can only assume Doc traveled to 2015 to get one of Goldie Wilson III’s hover conversions.

Fun Fact: Director Rick Carter drew inspiration for the design of the train from 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea with Captain Nemo’s Nautilus. The restored train as well as one of the BTTF DeLoreans stands in Universal Studios to this day.
