Appeared in: Back to the Future II

One of the more important vehicles in Back to the Future canon, the hoverboard certainly played an important role in all three movies. First we get to see the Mattel Hoverboard being used by Marty to escape Griff and the rest of his pals before Griff smashes into the clocktower. Then Marty uses the hoverboard to retrieve the Almanac from Biff Tanen and finally Marty calls on the hoverboard to save Clara and Doc Brown from tumbling off the locomotive 131 that was being used to push the DeLorean.

This particular model of hoverboard was made by Mattel and was sold to young children. It featured a detachable handlebar as well as a strap for your foot to prevent you from falling off. Power was mainly provided by whomever was pushing from behind. Griff’s Pit Bull hoverboard didn’t need foot power and instead had two directable rockets for further propulsion.

Last year (2014) Funny or Die created a spoof of the Mattel Hoverboard that featured Doc Brown himself with special guests Moby, Terrell Owens and Tony Hawk. Supposedly it’s real company, there’s actually a website for potential HUVr board buyers to visit. Click here to see for yourself. It’s all fake guys but still quite amusing to check out for yourself.
