You look pale Mr. Bond, I hope I didn’t frighten you
Appeared in: Thunderball
James Bond’s rendevous with Fiona Vorpe after he finds himself stranded on a beach in the Bahamas proves to be one of the only times we really see Bond flustered and quite nervous riding shotgun in this 1995 Ford Mustang Convertible. After flagging down the light blue Mustang and exchanging pleasantries, Bond and Vorpe head down the tree lined streets towards his hotel. The only peculiar thing is that Vorpe won’t stop accelerating!
In one of the movie’s more iconic panning scenes, we see the Mustang charging through the night with the road dimly lit by the Mustang’s two halogen headlights. Slowly the speedometer creeps towards 100 MPH and stays there. Thankfully the brakes are in tip-top shape as the ‘Stang comes to a screeching halt in the alcove of the front lobby of Bond’s hotel.
Although no details are given on this Mustang, we can assume it’s been stuffed with Ford’s infamous 289 4-barrel V8 with upwards of 220 HP and 300 lb-ft of torque. And since we can’t see Fiona do any shifting, we’re going to assume that it was equipped with a three-speed automatic. Draped in Caribbean Turquoise, it was the perfect color for a pony car in the Caribbean.
