#13- Soviet T54 Tank
Appeared in: Golden Eye
After Colonel Arkady Ourumov kidnaps Natalya Simonova, Bond rushes into a courtyard filled with tanks and selects a T55 to give chase. The Russian police aren’t too happy with his vehicle of choice as Bond handily smashes through much of St. Petersberg. The Russian police set up numerous roadblocks, but Bond simply crawls over every one of them. Bond tracks Ourumov to his personal HQ/train-car and manages to derail the entire train with the T55. Unfortunately, the tank is destroyed, but its served its purpose.
The exact nomenclature for this tank was the KhPZ T-54. Like a lot of vehicles Bond commandeers, this one was quite special. Equipped with a 12 cylinder water cooled diesel, this tank made upwards of 500 HP with later models making close to 800 HP. Weighing the better part of 36 tons, if you don’t have the speed, Bond made sure there’s nothing that can get in his way.
The whole stunt sequence with the tank took more than six weeks to film. The T55 was on loan from the East England Military Museum and did much of the action shots on the streets of St. Petersburg. In order not to damage the roads, rubber-shoed tracks from a British Chieftain tank were outfitted.
