Iron Man Racing based out of Puerto Rico is putting together a rotary powered ATV that will surely turn a few heads as it makes its way down pit road.

What happens when you have a spare Mazda RX-7 engine laying around and an ATV that’s begging for a bit more power? According to DragRacingPR on Instagram earlier Monday, you combine them together to make a one-of-a-kind drag vehicle that’s more likely to be heard before you ever catch a glimpse. If the caption on their Instagram post is to be believed, this particular ATV has hopes to lay claim to being the fastest ATV in the world. The way those guys down in Puerto Rico tune their drag racers, we’re not surprised if they actually pull it off. Have a listen to this one-off beast below.

With a compact displacement of just 1.3 liters (about 80 cubic inches,) rotary engines make ideal swaps for ATV’s as engine space is at a premium in ATV’s. Stock 13B rotary engines make 232 HP and 159 lb-ft of torque from the factory. According to some tuners, with the proper internals upgraded, 13B’s can handle upwards of 2.5 bars of boost (36 psi) which can make for high-power numbers from a relatively compact package.

Rotary engines also have a special place in Puerto Rico. Mazdas have been very popular in the small island country due to them being reliable and being able to make large amounts of power with little room taken in the engine bay.

Rotary powered ATV’s, while uncommon, are nothing new. Here’s a Polaris RZRr we posted above with a turbocharged Rotary dwelling underneath the rear-engine cover.
