#8- Scion xD

2016.2.8 Scion (2)
2016.2.8 Scion (2) /

The Scion xD was first introduced in 2007 as a replacement for the xA. Priced at an affordable $14,550 for the base model and $15,350 if you wanted the automatic, this was one of the cheapest cars in America. You might remember that this was during the recession so if Americans were shelling out money for new cars, subcompacts like the xD were definitely on their shopping list.

2008 treated the xD well as Scion sold 27,665 units. But from there on, sales slowly waned. In the seven years it was in existence, Scion sold 100,727 units.

The xD was powered by Toyota’s 1.8 L 2ZR-FE which put out an adequate 128 HP and 125 lb-ft. For a sub $16K car, that was a lot.

Reviewers loved the xD’s polarizing design, availability of a multitude of accessories and somewhat competitive stock sound system. What they didn’t like was its sloppy handling, lack of sportiness and lethargic acceleration.
