I freely admit that 100 horsepower is not a lot for a car, even for a lightweight one such as a Mazda 2.  However, EPA fuel ratings for the Mazda are 28 city, 35 highway with the manual transmission.  According to fuelly.com, the Mazda 2 gets around 31-34mpg through combined driving.  Granted, the fuelly.com website includes cars from both the United States and the United Kingdom, so gas mileage may be a bit inflated.  But, with a solid 30 mile per gallon average, it’s easy to say that the Mazda 2 is a fuel miser.
