Car Buying: Is A Used Mazda 2 A Steal?

It is a total steal.

The current new hatchback market is littered with vehicles with base spec models that start at $16,000.  Looking at the used market, a three-year-old Mazda 2 is still under $10,000.  More importantly, depreciation of a vehicle slows down with age.

The latest Mazda 2 underpinnings can only be found in the Scion iA, which is priced at $15,700.  Scion doesn’t exist anymore, and will likely be rebadged under the Toyota label.  The 2012 Mazda 2 has a cleaner look without a demonstrative front end.

It’s lightweight and fuel efficient.  It can come with a manual transmission.  It can be made SCCA legal for B-Spec racing.  It is affordable.  It is an outright steal.
