#21- Pedro Piquet’s Porsche GT3 Cup Crash

The Brazilian Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge is a relative newcomer to the country only being less than 10 years in existence but that doesn’t mean racing is any less competitive at this level. One of the hardest charging drivers is Pedro Piquet (yes, he’s related to Nelson Piquet Jr. the F1 driver.) Last year during the sixth round of the 2015 season held in Goiania, Pedro Piquet had the rough experience of having his Porsche Cup car flipping over almost nine times before landing on its underside.

Fellow driver Ricardo Baptista was ready to steal sixth place from Piquet and went for a late braking overtake on the inside corner. Unfortunately, this passing technique caused the  two to come into contact at such high speeds.

Piquet’s car was pushed into the grass before flipping sideways nine times. The Porsche landed on the grass but also eventually on the tarmac in one of the most violent crashes through the air anyone has ever seen.

Thankfully, the young driver only suffered light bruising all around, a couple of light injuries to his hands, and helmet bruising. We can only imagine that amount of g-forces that must’ve been going through the young driver’s body. Another living reason safety must never be skimped.
