#47- Jeremy Foley’s Mitsubishi Evo Race Car Flipping over a cliff at Pikes Peak

The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is one of the most dangerous time attacks on planet earth with cars climbing over 4,720 feet and navigating 156 turns all in a span of 12.42 miles. Prior to 2011, a good portion of the race was on unpaved dirt but now the course is fully paved. But without any guardrails on its epic 12-mile climb it’s still plenty dangerous and safety is paramount.

Jeremy Foley and his Co-Driver Yuri Kouznetsov found this out the hard way when Jeremy’s Mitsubishi Evolution 8 race car infamously understeered off a portion of the PPIHC known as the Devil’s playground. The car’s tires lost grip of the road sending Jeremey and Yuri off course. Witnesses caught the entire roll on camera. In total, their Evo flipped over 14-times.

Immediately after, Jeremy and Yuri emerged from the wreck seemingly unscathed in a crash that no one thought anyone could survive. Recaro put together a video showcasing just how important their safety equipment was in the ordeal.

If it wasn’t for the strict adherence to such practices as having a full roll cage, bucket seats, race harnesses, and proper helmets, neither of them would’ve survived.
