Art of Gears brings you a different car, a different race, and introduces you to the world that is eSports racing. Our eSports Car of the Week is the Renault Clio in Forza Motorsport 6.

This week’s eSports race event focuses more on your ability to maintain good rpm management rather than on raw horsepower. To be competitive at racing in the D class league in Forza Motorsport 6, you need to concentrate on maintaining good speed through the corners to keep your rpm’s high once you hit the straights.

In fact, because the D class vehicles are not as quick to get up to speed as the other race classes, many of the top racers in these class events will hardly use any real braking when approaching a corner.

Instead, they rely more on getting off the throttle early and downshifting in order to maintain an rpm level that will ensure optimum exit speed through the turns into the straightaway.

The car we are racing in this week’s eSports event is the 2003 Renault Clio V6. This mid-engine, 3-liter V6 was a track superstar back in its day, and the current model year Clio is still being raced by young up and coming drivers in the Renault UK Clio Cup.

In 2017, the Renault UK Clio Cup season will have a total of 18 races, covering nine different circuits, including world class race tracks like Brands Hatch and Silverstone.

The Renault UK Clio Cup is also a natural progression for drivers pursuing their dream of racing in the BTCC and has produced some of the very best drivers in pro-touring cars and also GT and sportscar competition as well.

We took some time this week to check out some of the race videos from the Renault UK Clio Cup and thought this hot hatch would be the perfect car to compete with in this week’s eSports event.
