Richard Hammond cheats death once more and this time it involves a motorcycle. The accident took place while filming the second season of Amazon Prime’s The Grand Tour.

Hamster took another shot at cheating death and this time too, he made it out alive. Ex-Top Gear host and current host of Amazon Prime’s The Grand Tour, Richard Hammond was filming the latest season of the hit show when the accident took place.

The cast and crew were in Mozambique in southern Africa and Hammond was riding a motorbike at the time of the crash. The presenter fell off his motorcycle and hit his head hard. Hammond lay unconscious in the middle of the road for some time because of the impact on the head. Whether he was wearing a helmet or not at that time is unclear.

The Sun reports that Co-hosts Jeremy Clarkson and James May were present there and when enquired on whether Hammond was checked into a hospital, Jezza’s reply was, “We don’t do hospitals.” Clarkson followed it up with a tweet.

More from Cars on TV

Thankfully, the crash wasn’t as terrifying as his previous outing and Hamster is back at work. Richard Hammond turned up at Advertising Week Europe, where he spoke of the fall from the motorbike and confirmed that though the news reports surfaced recently, the accident had happened almost three weeks ago.

Richard Hammond also updated his blog on Drivetribe on the incident.

"It’s true, I did fall off a motorbike whilst filming recently for The Grand Tour in Mozambique. I banged my head, yes, along with pretty much everything else apart from my left thumb, which remains un-bruised. Can’t tell you more yet about the how and why of it; that’s all for later in the year on the show. As for injuries; well put it this way, I don’t think I can get a book out of it."

There was also a Twitter update for the broader audience.

This is not the first date that Richard Hammond had with death as he was involved in a horrible accident 11 years ago when a jet-powered car (the Vampire dragster) that he was piloting lost control, spun off the runway and rolled over at high speeds. The incident took place at the former RAF Elvington airbase near York and the car was clocking 288mph when one of the front tires burst and things went terribly wrong from there.

The accident nearly killed Richard Hammond as it left him in a coma for two weeks with severe brain injuries. Despite recovering, he spoke later on the lasting damage that the accident had on his emotions, personality and memory functions. The high-speed run was being filmed by Top Gear camera crew as it was going to be one of the major set pieces that was in line for Series 9 of the BBC motoring show.
