The decision to opt for a powerful-yet-smaller 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost engine went on to have a huge role in everything from the Ford GT’s performance to overall design. The smaller engine allowed the designers to keep things tight and left enough room to accommodate the aerodynamic wizardry in place.

The 647 hp, 550 lb-ft, twin-turbo unit mated with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox isn’t to be messed with at all. Ford claims it to be capable enough to propel the GT to a top whack of 216 mph. With a carbon-fiber body and tub and the judicious use of aluminum in its construction, the overall weight has been kept in check too.
