Jerry Seinfeld-Owned Badass Lotus Exige S 260 Sold For $90,400
Technically, it used to be owned by Jerry Seinfeld. This 2009 Lotus Exige S 260 was purchased by another chap who then put it up for auction and cashed in on the car’s “celebrity-owned” status.
Cars with an ownership history that features a celebrity name always have a market. Unless the celebrity is not someone whose stardom faded off over the course of time, cars which used to be in his or her garage are collector’s items. At least for ardent fans. Jerry Seinfeld is still a popular name. Which is why this 2009 Lotus Exige S 260 which was once part of the comedian’s collection fetched a strong sum at a recent auction.
Motor Authority reports that the Exige S 260 went under the hammer at the Dan Kruse Classics auction in Midland, Texas. To make matters clear to interested parties, it was mentioned during the auction that the car was not under the current ownership of Jerry Seinfeld. The seller had purchased it from the TV star in 2012 and had all the relevant documents to prove the same.
The Kawasaki Green-colored Lotus Exige S 260 hasn’t seen much action on the road with a mere 4,005 mile-reading on the odometer. That’s quite a shame and in fact a bit surprising since Jerry Seinfeld has a reputation of being a car guy.

Coming back to the color of the car, it’s mentioned in the auction site that the paint job was a $5,000 option. Additional information states that it’s the only Lotus Exige S 260 with the aforementioned color. The car also boasts of the weight-reduction treatment featuring carbon-fiber components. Front Split Bumper, Rear Spoiler, Engine Cover, Side Air Intake Ducts, Sill Covers and portions of the dash come in the lightweight material.
The auction house had placed the final bid somewhere in the $65,000-75,000 bracket. Which means the winning bid of $90,400 placed more than just a big smile on everyone’s face.
With a 1.8-liter supercharged inline-4 powering it, the 257 hp machine with its 6-speed manual gearbox is among the best-handling, nimble sports cars in its segment. Perhaps the new owner will give this Lotus Exige S 260 the much-needed “pushing to the limits” that it really deserves.

On a related note, this particular example would’ve fetched more at the auction had it been owned by Jerry Seinfeld. The change of ownership may have marred the car’s chances of a higher final bid.
