The driver didn’t slow down and the tail section of this Ferrari 458 GT2 is now in need of some repair. Welcome to the 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed!

At Goodwood Festival of Speed, it’s easy for drivers to be carried away by the crowds and the setting. But it can lead to accident like these, unless extreme caution is exercised. Take the driver of this Ferrari 458 GT2 racer for example. The 464 hp race car ended up among the hay bales since things got out of hand after a corner.

The race car belongs to AF Corse team and was driven by Heinz Swoboda when the incident took place. While navigating the Molecomb corner, the Ferrari 458 GT2 didn’t slow down and attacked it with the same pace as it was before. Things turned messy from there as the car slid right into the hay bales, with the tail section kissing the hay first.

The carbon-fiber rear wing detached on impact and the rear section took some damage too. The driver sustained no injuries since the crash wasn’t a severe one. After all, the hay bales are there in place to keep the damage to the cars to a minimum and to slow down the missiles spin out of the track.

Quick trivia: The Ferrari 458 GT2 racer is less-powerful than its road-going version though both cars have the same 4.5-liter V8 engine.

Once the Ferrari came to a halt, Heinz Swoboda got out of the car and gave a thumbs-up sign to the crowds to convey that he was fine. As for the car, it’ll live to race another day. But of course, re-attaching that rear spoiler and getting those expensive body panels at the rear into their former shape and glory is in store for it once this Ferrari 458 GT2 returns home after the 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
