The time period for the Bumblebee spinoff is the 1980s, which is an inspired choice as we could use a change of imagery, production design and setting from the recent crop of Transformers movies. An Easter Egg here is that 1980s was the time when the Transformers saga was born. The time period for the solo Bumblebee flick couldn’t have been any better than the 80s.
