The all new 2018 Land Rover Discovery Td6 proves its might in the Australian Outback by towing a 110-tonne road train.

This might seem totally insane but Land Rover has just proved the “supposedly impossible” absolutely possible by making a  brand new Land Rover Discovery Td6 pull a 100 meter-long road train that weighs somewhere north of 110 tonnes.

The action took place on the 16 km stretch of the Lasseter Highway in Australia’s Northern Territory, thus officially announcing the arrival of the 2018 model of the renowned British SUV, that now boasts of a bunch of technology updates. The maximum certified towing capacity of the Td6 being just 3500 kg on public roads, this extreme test was done on a closed section of the highway in the Australian Outback.

With this feat, the Land Rover Discovery Td6 has proven itself to have inherited every bit of its ancestral legacy for sure. Right from the first generation that rolled out in 1989, the Discovery has amazed enthusiasts and the common folk alike with its towing capabilities. The SUV has made it a habit (or hobby) to pull long and heavy vehicles. The first-gen Discovery towed a train in 1989. The past year saw the Discovery Sport tow a trio of rail carriages 85 feet above the Rhine River. And now, this.

About the figures, the Td6 hosts a 255 hp, 3.0-liter, single-turbo Diesel engine, giving out a whopping 600 Nm of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and 4WD. The car, mostly stock, had a factory-fitted tow bar attachment for hooking it to the road train.

Frankly speaking, with the endless list of towing-targeted features on board as the Advanced Tow Assist, Rear Height Assist, Hitch Assist and Trailer Stability Assist, the Discovery seems to be a built to tow things around.
