Expected to hit the production line by mid-2019, the Polestar 1 is one serious  high-performance hybrid to crave for, with the might of 600 horses at your toes!

That feeling of distinct dichotomy between performance and electrification owes its existence to cars like the Toyota Prius that made people turn away from the electrified future of mobility. While they may be kind polar bears and ice packs, their performance figures weren’t something that you’d love to share with friends. But things have changed with the likes of Tesla and Fisker coming in. Now Volvo has entered the race of fast and powerful electric/hybrid cars with Polestar and the Polestar 1 is the car which will lead the charge.

Destined to go into production in mid-2019 at the Polestar Production Center in Chengdu, China, the Polestar 1 is an electric performance hybrid capable of running up to 93 miles on pure electric power alone, an obvious upper hand over any other hybrid car on sale now. The car’s 4-cylinder Volvo Drive-E engine powering the front wheels and the two electric motors driving the rear wheels inside deliver a whopping 600 hp of power and1,000 Nm of torque.

This two-door, 2+2 seater Grand Tourer coupe has a thoroughly reworked version of Volvo’s Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA) forming its bedrock. Polestar has also incorporated state-of-the-art Öhlins Continuously Controlled Electronic Suspension (CESi) technology into this car, making it the world’s first car to boast of the same. Braking is handled by the 6-piston brake calipers and 400-millimeter discs by Akebono.

Polestar 1 will be followed by Polestar 2, a battery-electric model which will be the brand’s Tesla Model 3 rival. A mid-sized all-electric SUV, Polestar 3 will be the next car in the lineup.
