Honda celebrated a unique milestone today, 25 million vehicles made in United States manufacturing plants.  This achievement took over 35 years for the company.

Honda announced today that its 25 millionth American made car rolled off the production line.  The Marysville Ohio production plant, one of 12 the company currently operates in the United States, held a celebration as the 2018 Accord came off the line.

Honda and Acura vehicles have been made in the United States since 1982 so this is no small feat.  It takes plenty of time.  The company was also the first Japanese automaker to produce cars in the US.  The Marysville is the newest plant built.  It has been online since 2016 and its main focus is the Acura NSX supercar.

The accord was not a coincidence

The 2018 Honda Accord was chosen to be the 25 millionth car based on it being the brands best selling car in America.  Since its introduction in 1976, the Accord has become a favorite among buyers. My boss in the real life will only drive Accords and only has since before I was born.  There is no chance he will ever change.  The 25 millionth Accord rolled off the line wearing a smart Obsidian Blue Pearl coat of paint.

Doing some good in the community

In an effort to continue the good news, Honda announced that on top of the massive number of cars produced, a scholarship will be set up as well.  The fund has an initial $25,000 dollar donation, symbolic of the 25 million cars produced.  The scholarship is for students pursuing engineering and supply chain management at historically black universities. Participants, along with the financial support, will be invited to apply for internships and other opportunities.

Japanese automakers have been increasingly proud to build their cars in the United States which is a massive market for reliable and fuel-efficient cars.  Toyota and Mazda recently announced a joint venture in Alabama for example.  Most of the manufacturing plants are located in the southern part of the US.
