You and I know that the Chiron is a brutally fast, flame-spitting machine; but how fast can it go if one were to actually stretch it to the limits? Well, even the brand’s CEO seems to have no idea!

The Bugatti Chiron very well carries forth the entire legacy of the much celebrated Bugatti Veyron, that it is bestowed upon with, if not more. This highly sought-after hypercar, with its 1500 horsepower, is undoubtedly something to lay huge bets on, especially when it comes to the game of speeds.

But what should one say if asked about exact top speed figures of this magnificant machine? We have no clue yet, as the Bugatti CEO  Stephan Winkelmann seems to be too busy to go for a top speed test run. Bugatti seems to have completely lost the fact that they had announced plans for a top speed run in 2018, sometime back in 2016. Well, time is ticking and we will settle for “better late than never” with this feat.

When speaking with CNBC, Winkelmann said: “I have a lot on my plate. The speed test is not my priority. I think we have a lot of things to do.”

Does the top speed of the $3 million hypercar actually matters to its existing owners and other perspective clients? When asked about it, Winkelmann simply admitted to the fact that he doesn’t even know how fast his own brand’s car can go.

Is this going to be a magnificent machine will never have a top speed run and record its full potential?

This question comes from many desperate enthusiasts and press folks. When pressed on the issue, Winkelmann sounded unsure, if not disappointing by replying with a mere ‘Maybe, I don’t know’ statement.

Chiron currently has its top speed limited to 261 mph and has managed to sell so far, as much as over 320 units of the 500 that are ever to be made! The model also has around 3 years of production backlog in Molsheim, France – one of the factors that might possibly be holding Winkelmann back from organizing the top speed run.

Though, Bugatti buyers seem to be least worried about the Chiron’s top speed.

This is a fact that has been very well substantiated by Brian Miller, president of Manhattan Motorcars. He told CNBC that “the Chiron customers are buying a work of art, the official top speed is less important.”

There are also rumors that it’s the tires that is holding Chiron back from the top speed sprint. The Michelin rubber that the car comes equipped with seems to be too iffy for a post 261 mph run. Perhaps the carmaker is waiting for Michelin to sort things out before it sets out on a top speed run to ensure a more accurate and safe run.

Thus, the fastest car of today , as per the records, is indeed the Koenigsegg Agera RS with a claimed two-way average speed of 277.9 mph. This speed record, however, was clocked on a Vbox, and was therefore not recognized by the Guinness World Records.
