Ford Motor Company created a crib called MAX Motor Dreams that simulates the calming motion of a car to help put and keep babies asleep.

Most, if not all, of us can relate to a long car ride as a child. The relaxing steady sound of the wheels on the freeway and the wind coming in through a small crack in the window. It almost always put us to sleep, whether we wanted it to or not. It is definitely safe to say that it was more successful than it was not.

Ford Motor Company has taken that relatable experience to new lengths with their “smart” crib called MAX Motor Dreams. This “Clever Cot”, as they call it, mimics the experience of a car ride to help babies fall and stay asleep. The only problem with this is that it is not made for adult-sized humans. I mean, can’t we all use this? But I digress.

The MAX Motor Dreams crib gives parents what they really want: the ability to sleep peacefully and have their baby do the same.

This cot has LED lights that glow similarly to the street lights you see outside and it also contains speakers at the bottom that can produce muffled engine sounds for ambient noise. After all, we all know how incredibly relaxing the sound of a humming engine can be – even in our adulthood. The crib also gently vibrates and rocks side to side to simulate a car ride in the back seat. The icing on the cake may be that it comes with a specially designed app so that it can track your car’s route to reproduce the movements from that drive for your child. If that doesn’t prove how far we have come in technology, I don’t know what can.

According to Ford’s official press release, Max Motor Dreams designer Alejandro López Bravo said:

"“After many years of talking to mums and dads, we know that parents of newborns are often desperate for just one good night’s sleep. But while a quick drive in the family car can work wonders in getting baby off to sleep, the poor old parents still have to be awake and alert at the wheel,” said López Bravo, of Spanish creative studio Espada y Santa Cruz, which produced the award-winning design. “The Max Motor Dreams could make the everyday lives of a lot of people a little bit better.”"

Ford Spain: Max Motor Dreams won an award for “Innovative technologies to solve real problems” for 2018.

All this sounds great, right? The only issue here is actually getting your hands on one of these cribs. This is because the Max Motor Dreams was only created as a one-off test. However, according to Ford, “following numerous enquiries, the company is considering putting the unique cot into full‑scale production.”

If this future crib ever becomes mass produced, it will be because of popular demand. Until then, I guess parents are going to have to continue to resort to the old rocking of a bassinet and hope for the best. There’s always a white-noise machine or smartphone apps for extra sound effects. Hope everyone can sleep soundly and let’s dream of a time when this comes to fruition.
