Number 2: Mercedes-Benz S Class

You probably figured that the Mercedes-Benz S Class would appear somewhere on this list. A car with an $89,000 price tag is going to be expensive to insure, plain and simple. Still, you might not have guessed it would find itself sitting in the number two spot.

Car and Driver called the S Class “synonymous with luxury”. The car has one of the best interiors in its large luxury sedan class, and it has some seriously strong engines, including a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 that makes 362 hp or a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that produces 463 hp.

The car’s high price tag, powerful engines, and general premium nature are what make its price tag so high, and that also translates to some of the highest insurance costs in the entire industry. Of course, if you can afford one of these cars, you can probably also afford to insure it.

  • Annual Average Insurance Paid: $1,540.63
  • Annual Collision Insurance Paid: $803,40
  • Type: Large luxury sedan
  • Retail Price: $89,900
