Number 2: Turbo 2.0-liter engine is Honda’s best
Honda has some fantastic engines in its lineup right now. The regular Civic has your choice of a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder or a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. While those engines are good, they won’t do for a vehicle that needs to be the fastest front-wheel-drive car ever.
Honda built a special turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder for the Civic Type R that makes 306 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. This makes the Honda Civic Type R’s engine the most powerful engine in the company’s U.S. lineup.
The best thing about the engine is that you get torque down low and power up high thanks to the variable valve timing and the tuning of the turbocharger. The car also has a special locking differential on the front drive wheels that is designed to basically eliminates torque steer. With power out of the way, let’s take a look at the rest of the Civic Type R’s merits.
