Number 9: Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1

The Chevrolet Corvette is the go-to American sports car for many people. It’s classic V8 power, attractive styling, and long history in the American automotive landscape mean the Corvette is nothing short of an American icon. The Corvette ZR-1 built in the 1990s took this sentiment to the extreme.

GM acquired Lotus in the late 1980s and wanted to make something special happen in the 90s. The car sported a 375 hp and roughly 300 lb-ft of torque thanks to its 32-valve V8 that was sourced from Lotus.  The ZR-1 also had more sophisticated steering and suspension system that was also co-developed with Lotus.

The cars received some exterior upgrades to go with the mechanical ones, and the whole package put together makes this easily one of the most highly sought-after sports cars of the 1990s. Even today, it’s top speed of over 175 mph is quite impressive.
