Number6: Toyota MR2 (W20)

The Toyota MR2 isn’t the only mid-engine sports car on this list, but that doesn’t make it any less special. Some have called this the poor man’s Ferrari. That claim actually makes a lot of sense. The MR2 (W20) is the second generation car. It was and still is an affordable way to get into a mid-engine car that can be driven daily or hooned on the racetrack.

Basic models of this car made about 163 hp, which isn’t a whole lot, but the turbo versions made 218 hp which is much more respectable. If you want to buy one of these cars today, you should be able to find them. Once you get it, if you feel the model isn’t quite up to snuff, there are tons of performance upgrades for these cars.

Toyota came out with a third generation MR2, but it simply wasn’t as good as the second generation car of the 1990s. That car is the one that most people are after. It’s modern enough, fast, and a whole lot of fun.
