To say the two Race Days of the 2019 SBK World Championship in Spain was entertaining would be underselling it. Michael van der Mark takes the number one slot of Race 2.

No repeat of Race 1 for fan favourite Alvaro Bautista after crashing out of the race with 19 laps to go. After taking Race 1 the Ducati rider failed to finish in his follow-up race.

It was also the log leaders first mistake to his almost flawless Superbike campaign.

A non-finished race for the Spaniard cleared the track for riders, van der Mark and Jonathan Rea to battle it out for pole position. Before the red flag was waved for the competition to conclude the Dutchman on the Yamaha made his move and led the race at the right moment.

It went from bad to worse for Alex Lowes, who failed to complete his second race in as many in Spain. Marco Melandri on the Yamaha R1 looked more outraged but is the one who has been hit with a “six-placed grid penalty”, according to motorsport.com.

Rea’s back-of-the-line saw him work his way up to fight for a strong finish to the weekend in Spain.

As it stands after Spain

  • 1st – Alvaro Bautista – 300 Points
  • 2nd – Jonathan Rea – 262 Points
  • 3rd – Michael van der Mark – 188 Points
  • 4th – Alex Lowes – 142 Points
  • 5th –  Leon Haslam – 130 Points
