Genesis unveiled their facelift of the G90 to crowds at the LA Auto Show. It comes as a complete redesign and showcases the next generation of design language from Genesis.
Although the G90 is only midway through its production cycle Genesis has just given it a complete redesign which they unveiled at the LA Auto Show. With a much more imposing look, the new G90 hopes to impress buyers with its bold shapes and sharp lines.
Ever since Genesis spun off from Hyundai as a separate entity back in 2017 the sales of their flagship model, the G90, have been far from impressive. But major changes are coming to the model lineup that they have to offer, and it starts with the spectacularly redesigned G90. Following soon after will be the much awaited GV80 SUV, expected to arrive next year.
This redesign of the G90 brings a refreshing and innovative new look into the full size premium sedan segment where design has been growing stale for years. The new look from Genesis ditches all sense of subtlety with a daring front fascia characterized by a mush sharper version of Genesis’s signature “Crest Grille” that features a chrome cross-mesh pattern, first seen on the Essentia Concept which is still supposedly on its way. Flanking the grille on both sides are sharp headlights that Genesis calls “Quad Lamps”. These Quad Lamps also appear on the rear, where they span the entire width of the car to form a lightbar, emphasizing the G90’s low and wide stance.
The interior gets its fair share of upgrades as well, opting for a clean and harmonious layout. On the inside is a parallel layout of the air conditioning, speakers, and audio controls which help to “maximize simplicity and provide an intuitive user experience”. Serenity is further aided thanks to new Active Noise Cancellation technology which heavily dampens tire noise.
The G90 is the first step in a new design direction for Genesis and while its bold styling may not be for everyone, it might just exactly what the brand needed to stir up excitement. And once the G90 joined by the upcoming, similarly styled SUVs from the Korean luxury brand, Genesis will have an impressive lineup to offer the SUV hungry US market.
