The American Muscle Car era died in 1970 when the U.S. government passed the “Clean Air Act” to lower vehicle emissions and clean up the environment. As a result of government regulations American car manufacturers saw their horsepower numbers dwindle throughout the 1970s. Chevy was not immune to this as the following will show how much drop the Bowtie fell off in horsepower ratings.
