Yesterday Arrow McLaren SP announced that Juan Pablo Montoya will drive their #86 car at the 2021 Indy 500.

Last season three-time F1 world champion Fernando Alonso drove for Arrow McLaren SP in the Indy 500 and finished 21st but Patricia O’Ward finished sixth for the team.

Montoya, a two-time Indy 500 winner (2000, 2015), has not driven an IndyCar race since 2017 and had two previous stints in the American open wheel racing series; 1999-2000 (CART/IndyCar for Ganassi) and 2014-2017 (IndyCar for Team Penske).

In 52 career IndyCar races he garnered five-wins and 13-podiums. During his CART career he had 10-wins in 40-races.

Montoya has had a unique and diverse racing career that has seen him go from CART to Formula One to NASCAR and to IMSA.

The 45-year-old is in the latter stages of his racing career but a shot at third Indy 500 title is a distinct possibility and he has solid backing with Arrow McLaren SP. The following slide show highlights the many stops in Montoya’s motor sports odyssey.
