NASCAR (2006-2014)

Montoya shocked the motor sports community when he announced on July 9, 2006 that he was jumping to NASCAR and would race for Chip Ganassi Racing. With having to learn a completely new racing discipline, after a career in open-wheel cars, Montoya ran a couple of ARCA races to get his feet wet and then moved to the NASCAR Xfinity Series for more preparation before making his Cup Series debut in 2007.

in 255 Cup Series starts he won a pair of races (Sonoma 2007 and Watkins Glen 2010) and one Xfinity Series race in 23-starts.
