2012: The Marussia F1 Team Is Born

The seeds for Marussia F1 were planted with Virgin Racing but as their own entity I consider their birth to be 2012. The MR01 would be driven by Timo Glock and Charles Pic and like its Virgin Racing predecessor it was powered by a Cosworth engine. The car was stuck in developmental purgatory due to its inability to pass crash tests and as a result it did not participate in winter testing.

In 20-races the Marussia F1 Team did not score a Constructors’ Championship point but Pic set a team high with a 12th place finish at the season ending Brazilian Grand Prix. Overall the team finished 11th in the Constructors’ Championship, second to last and ahead of the HRT Formula 1 Team
