F1 Heads To Miami and Some Previous U.S. F1 Tracks

Phoenix 1989-1991
Iâve lived in Phoenix since 2005 and until about 2010 I had no idea that my town hosted an F1 race. The Valley of the Sun is awesome for motor sports but itâs largely a NASCAR town and open wheel racing hasnât made a strong foothold, the Phoenix Grand Prix IndyCar race was held at Phoenix Raceway for three-years and attendance was low but I enjoyed covering it in 2016.
The same could be said for the U.S. Grand Prix in downtown Phoenix. It was short lived and attendance was low but it had a pretty dope downtown Phoenix setup. Ayrton Senna won it twice but the idea of holding an F1 race in June in Phoenix was a bad idea.
I rarely leave the house in the summer and if I do itâs from my home to the car and from my car to another building. You need air conditioning in June and the race organizers did move the race to March for 1990 and 1991 but it didnât work.
