“Amphibious Car Challenge” (Season 8, Episode 3)

The challenge was to take personal vehicles, make them amphibious and get across a two-mile reservoir. Results were mixed but all three vehicles did float for some amount of time.

Hammond modified a 1983 VW camper van into some form of a houseboat. May was inspired by a more romantic era of boating and turned a 1962 Triumph Herald into a sailboat. Clarkson took a 1989 Toyota Hilux truck and mounted an out-board motor in the back.
