Chevrolet Corvette C5-R

In 2001 Dale Sr. and Jr. teamed up with Andy Pilgrim in a Chevy Corvette C5-R to take on endurance racing in the 24 Hours of Daytona. The results were positive as the yellow #3 finished fourth overall and second in class.

Tragically it was the only time that Earnhardt Sr. & Jr. raced together. In February 2001, Earnhardt Sr. passed away after a racing accident in the last turn of the last lap of the Dayton 500.

Earnhardt also owns a street-legal replica of the C5-R.

“It means more to me now than I ever thought it,” Earnhardt Jr. said of the car. “When we decided to have these cars made, I didn’t know Dad was going to be taken from us just a short time later. It took a while for these cars to get built. The wing on my car came from the second place-finishing Corvette at Le Mans that year. The wing on Dad’s car came from the winning car.”
